Dear Children’s Book Group Member,
Next year, the Federation of Children’s Book Groups (of which Aldbourne is one of the longest standing members) will be celebrating its Golden Anniversary. As part of the celebrations they will be creating a list of the Nation’s 50 Favourite Children’s Books, as voted for by you!
The Aldbourne Children’s Book Group Committee will be sending our Top 50 to the Federation in the last week of August, and if you want to help your personal favourites make it onto the list, then please email at least 10 titles (plus author’s name if you know it) to:
If you have the time, feel free to send in more than 10 (we know how hard it is to pick so few from so many great books!) and where books are part of a series, just give us your favourite one of the titles to represent the whole, just try not to have a falling-out over which Harry Potter book is best! (Everyone knows it’s Prisoner of Azkaban!)
You can vote for any age range from picture books up to YA novels. The only criteria is that the nominated books were published during the lifetime of the Federation, so that’s any book first published in 1968 to the present. Ideally we’d like a variety of age ranges, and have something from each of the past five decades, but if you want to put all your votes towards your children’s current favourite bedtime stories that’s fine too!
The deadline for your votes is Sunday 20th August, but sooner would be better as there will be a lot of counting and debating before we arrive at our ultimate list of Aldbourne’s favourites!
Sophy and Marc Thomas,
Joint Chair of The Aldbourne Children’s Book Group.

July 2015 Aldbourne celebrated 40 years as a Children’s Book Group
Sandy Martin says: ‘On a sunny Friday, 17 July we held a birthday party to celebrate the 40th birthday of Aldbourne Children’s Book Group in the lovely garden of The Old Malt House, home of Marianne Adey. Invitations were sent to current and some ‘old’ members as well as some of the staff of the local primary school.
Author Anne Booth entertained reading stories from her books The Fairiest Fairy and the Girl with the White Dog. We had strawberries and cream, as well as birthday cake’.
