The Publishers’ Exhibition is going to be a real treat for anyone attending the FCBG annual conference – and particularly if it’s your first time! How many other opportunities do you get to see around 20 publishers of children’s books displaying their wares under the same roof, with plenty of time to talk to delegates and lots of information, ideas and ‘goodies’ to give away?

Look beyond the books you’re already familiar with and get to know the full range of each publisher’s list. Discover some of the highlights of recent publishing and find out about what to look out for in the future. Get to know the area(s) of publishing each publisher specialises or excels in; and investigate the availability of authors and illustrators who might be willing to attend events.

The publishers attending range from large well-established publishers like Walker Books who will be celebrating their 40th birthday in a couple of years, to (relatively speaking) fledgling publishers like Nosy Crow, who have just celebrated their 5th birthday.

Walker Books publishes around 300 books a year which cater for all age groups. They are particularly well known for their fantastic picture books and fittingly, during the conference, we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy.

As well as their fast-growing list of books, Nosy Crow are also developing a range of audio-enhanced iBooks and high-quality apps, and all their fiction appears simultaneously in both print and ebook form.  Nosy Crow author Pamela Butchart , who is currently shortlisted for this year’s Children’s Book Award, will be running a seminar at the conference.

Some publishers are specialists. Ransom Publishing, for example, publish a range of titles designed to support both struggling and reluctant readers while Bounce is a company that specialises in selling and marketing books published by a wide variety of independent publishers.

Other publishers attending  include Andersen, Curious Fox, Egmont , HarperCollins, Hachette, Little Tiger, Macmillan, Phaidon, Quarto and Rock the Boat.

Watch out for more news and information, plus tips on how to make the best use of your visit to the Publishers’ Exhibition!
